VANCOUVER AQUARIUM CAMPAIGN

Immersive experiences.

A brand campaign for the Vancouver Aquarium is a whale of an assignment—as many ideas as fish in the sea. We were in a smaller fishbowl.

Our client wanted a literal interpretation of their tagline. Showing the exhibits was a mandatory—the Aquarium’s oft-used photo of a girl and a beluga was referenced. Creative needed to compete for tourists and attract locals all too familiar with the Aquarium.

Magic r-eel-ism

We showed the Aquarium experience by diving (sorry, last one) into fantasy while showing a sample of the exhibits.

A younger cast inspired a sense of wonder for young and old. A date night suggested the Aquarium as an entertainment option. We even recreated the iconic beluga girl moment in a new way.

Swimmers were photographed by Philip Jarmain, skilled in lighting and shooting underwater, supported by film industry safety divers.

Compositing these photos against aquarium shots allowed control in any proportion. Though not part of the campaign, these layered visuals could be used to create dynamic images and animated gifs for digital marketing.
